Another trip to beautiful British Columbia, we were here for business and pleasure but mostly pleasure. An easy 5 Hr flight from Montreal to Vancouver, then a 2 hrs ferry ride to Nanaimo, then another 3hrs drive winding through mountains and we were in Tofino, our destination. Tofino is a small Pacific surf town on the westside of Vancouver Island right next to the Pacific Rim National park reserve. It took half a day just to get from Vancouver airport to Tofino so you could consider also a short seaplane flight from downtown.
Our time in Tofino was brief but relaxing. We spent our three days here beach hopping from Chesterman to Cox and Long beach. We also took long strolls through the rainforest in the beautiful Pacific Rim National Park which were very relaxing. The town has a relaxed surf town vibe, most restaurants serve good organic food that’s mostly locally sourced. My favourite spots were the Shed and 1909 Kitchen.
After three days in Tofino we started our trek back to Vancouver. We stayed at the beautiful Fairmont Pacific Rim right next to the Vancouver convention center. We had our golden doodle with us and thankfully our hotel was pet friendly. In fact all the three Fairmonts in Vancouver area are pet friendly. The vibe in Vancouver was very similar to Seattle, gloomy rainy weather and lush gardens, definitely bring an umbrella or rain coat if you are in this neck of the woods
There are plenty of spots in downtown Vancouver that are worth checking out, the Gastown area is definitely up there. There are tons of cute shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. My fav was MeeT in Gastown, a vegan restaurant with super yummy vegan dishes. Miku Japanese was also a nice sushi restaurant within Canada Place.
