In January 2021, in the mid of global pandemic my family and I decided to go for a 3 weeks getaway to Tulum, Mexico.
Getting through the airport during the pandemic was easy breezy, since we knew what to expect. Wearing the mask for the whole duration with the exception of during meals of course.
It’s about a 2hrs drive from Cancun Airport to Tulum. In terms of getting the local currency, pesos it is better to exchange down here as you will get a better rate than US or Canada. Tulum is situated with the Mayan Jungle, along the beautiful Caribbean coast.
There are tons of nice restaurants in Tulum and expect to pay similar rates for drinks and food especially in the hotel zone or tourist zone if you will. Tip or propina in spanish is usually included about 15% but not always.
We had the best meals outside the hotel zone, in Tulum City center and Aldea Zama. Pasha and Mezzanine were my favourite restaurant. The restaurants by the beach side had cool ambiance but food was so so and overpriced. Ilios, Tora and Funky Geisha had great vibes and good shisha but If you can just go here for drinks
The hotel/tourist zone by the beach is very beautiful with the coolest beach clubs. Cinco and Alma were my favourite, very chill ambiance and yummy foods and drink. Tantra, Mia and Taboo beach club are more upscale and influencer heavy, definitely a place to see and seen.
Our time in Tulum was amazing, looking forward to coming back here.
Cheers,
Siti
