So last year we visited Northern California, San Francisco and the surrounding Bay area. This time around we decided to visit Southern California or as the locals call it SoCal.  I must say, the vibe is completely different down in SoCal compared to NoCal.

The SoCal vibe is more chill and the weather is always nice. I bet the weatherman  has a pretty easy job down here. Our itinerary was packed with lots of  “must visit” museums, “must see” sights and “must go chill” beaches yet we probably covered about half of it.

First day before even checking in to our hotel we drove straight from LAX to Laguna beach, about a 1 hr drive south of Los Angeles. We spent almost the whole day in this quaint  seaside town. Dolphin watching at the beach, lunch in a small local restaurant and then we headed back up to Santa Monica.

We stayed at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel on  the corner of Wilshire Blvd and the Pacific Ocean :), hard to beat the location I know. The service here was top notch, the hotel restaurant was great and the indoor/outdoor gym at Exhale  Spa was my absolute fav. The only issue was that they had an event one evening  and the valet was not exactly on top of their game. The pregnant lady next to us mentioned she was there waiting for her car over half an hour, not cool.

The following day we went to visit the Getty Museum. Oh boy, you could easily spend days here and still not see everything. The museum under the Getty foundation was set up by the oil tycoon  J. Paul Getty and no expenses were spared in the construction of this massive landmark. Upon arrival visitors can park in the garage at the bottom of the hill and take the tram up the hill to where the museum is. Beautifully restored art, the lush gardens, all the sculptures available to you at NO COST at all. We had a really  beautiful day at the Getty Center. We ended our day with a romantic rooftop dinner at CATCH LA in West Hollywood .

On our third day here, we drove up to Malibu for lunch  with a perfect view at NOBU of the Pacific waves and surfers at Malibu Lagoon beach. We spent the rest of our day in this beautiful  beach town that Miley Cyrus won’t stop singing about.

Our time in Southern California was magical. I had mixed feelings hopping on a plane heading back east but grateful for the wonderful time we had.
